Our preferred coating: Plastisol

Plastisol is a liquid PVC compound that fuses into a solid, flexible lining when heated. It is our preferred coating when the tank can be cut open. Not a DIY job — skilled labour and controlled heat are required.

We do not offer red oxide as a long-term fuel tank coating.

Defume the fuel tank

Cut open; remove coatings & sludge

Replace plastic parts with metal fittings

Shot blast; inspect rust is gone

Close holes; replace corroded sheet

Weld and leak test

Inner Plastisol fill & drain

Black outer coat (rolled/brushed)

Rusted tanks are common for riders in coastal Cape Town, where salty air speeds corrosion. That can hurt performance and lead to dangerous leaks.

Our approach: remove rust completely using sandblasting, chemical rust solvents and manual scrubbing, then apply a liner as a protective barrier and sealant against future rust and leaks.
